Curating mega ideas into digital zines for a better workplace

Dawn Of The Mighty Magazine

The origins of the very first magazine can be traced back to the 17th century. In 1663, the “Erbauliche Monaths Unterredungen” (Edifying Monthly Discussions) was published in Germany, covering a range of serious topics such as politics, religion and science. Magazines in these early times were typically small, one-page publications that were circulated among a small group of like-minded people. In the 18th century, the concept of magazines started to catch on and grew in both size and scope. England, France and the United States embraced this form of publication and expanded its content to include literature, entertainment and fashion.

The 19th century represented arguably the most significant phase in the evolution of magazines. Magazines had gone mainstream and were now aimed at a broader audience and featured shorter, more accessible articles. Unlike when magazines were first introduced, the goal of every magazine publisher was to reach and distribute to as many people as they could. By the 20th century, the introduction of photography and colour printing helped transform the look and feel of magazines, making them more visually appealing and engaging. This led to the creation of many visual-based magazines. The latter half of the century also saw the rise of many niche magazines, which were aimed at specific audiences.

Into the 21st century, magazines have continued to innovate and adapt, with the introduction of new formats such as tabloids, glossy magazines and digital publications. Today, magazines remain a popular form of media to cater to diverse interests and audiences. With today’s stressfully rapid and dynamic environment, magazines that cover topics relating to improving quality of life have become especially relevant.

Which brings us to our next point.

Here’s Why We Launched Megazine

Megazine was launched because we wanted to create a digital space to put out ideas that could lead to a better quality of life in the workplace. Whether it is a traditional office environment or a work-from-home arrangement, we aspire to bring ideas that may improve productivity and comfort levels for the everyday working adult.

Who’s “We”?

“We” are from Affinite Solutions, a fintech company based in Singapore that has developed several proprietary technologies. Primarily, we develop platforms that are focused on employee benefits and the corporate environment. We are also a bunch of young, fit, sexy, smart, attractive, good-looking, wonderful people. And we have a flying donkey!

No lie.

Anyways, moving on.

One of our latest technology products is Purple Rewards, which is a mobile application for users to discover and redeem exclusive retail merchant deals. We’ll get to why this is relevant in a moment.

Why “Megazine”?

“Mega” represents the big ideals that represent the very foundation we started out with – to improve the quality of life in the workplace, from both an employer and employee perspective. As the saying goes, “Go big or go home”.

“Zine” represents how we wanted to deliver our content. Going through life as a working adult is hard enough as it is, and so we wanted to bring some fun into the mix. Rather than delivering a whole wall of text, we wanted to splash colours with images in our content to make it a fun and enjoyable visual experience for our audience.

(The irony is noted with this article, but hey, can’t win ‘em all)

And Megazine was conceptualised. So that’s that.

Before We Forget...

While we aspire to elevate the quality of life in the workplace, we aren’t doing this purely out of hopes and dreams. It is a practical world we live in. As such, Megazine is also an avenue to introduce our clients’ brands and feature the awesome exclusive deals they offer on our Purple Rewards platform, available both on iOS and Android operating systems.

If you are an employer or in a human resource capacity in your organisation, Purple Rewards can also be integrated into your employee benefits programme. This means your employees can enjoy even bigger deals and discounts at selected retail merchants. The best part – there might even be no extra cost to your bottom line.

Gotta pay the bills somehow.
